all about rainbows, butterflies, and lollipops

I forgot to post this year's addition to the red chair album last week. That is really the only decent shot I got. The rest were grumpy, slumpy, or eyes closed. She was not into it and I didn't have the energy to try for a re-shoot.

She has been testing me lately. I wish I could take some patient, peace pills or something. Man-oh-man is she a strong-willed little girl. I haven't been writing about parenting issues on here for a long time, but there has certainly been some doozies. How many borderline nervous breakdowns can a momma have? Yesterday we had a very trying day, one thing after another all day and then on top of it all she suddenly got this little quarter-sized rash on her arm. Keely will obsess over the tiniest scratch for a day, so I was not looking forward to what the rash would bring. Then, within about an hour the rash had spread up her arm. She was flailing and itching and going bonkers. I thought maybe a bug had bit her and she was having a reaction. I finally got her to lay down and she miraculously fell asleep. I went in to check on the rash and it was everywhere! All over her little white body. It was puffy and hot and huge! Her cheeks were violet and I was ready to cart her to the E.R. Panic mommy set in fast and I was checking her breathing every 2 seconds. I got a hold of her dr. and we all decided it was hives. Once she woke up we got some benadryl on her and rocked her until the itching stopped.

This is a mild shot. I can't show the others. I've never had hives or seen them so this was really stressing me out. Not fun. By late evening, her skin looked weird and streaky but better and she was back to pushing her limits. Good times over here. I'm not cut-out to cope with this sort of thing so often. Nope.  Oh, and we all still have colds.

Oh, no- that looks scary! So far, my kids don’t get the hives, but I’m a life-long veteran. When I was little especially. Stress, a new soap, playing in straw- poof! I’d puff up instantly.

Although it would make her tired during the day, giving her liquid Benedryl would really help too.

We have colds too- yuck. I hope you all feel better soon and she gets back to being her *angelic* little self. ; )

Take care of yourself. Hives are not fun…I actually got them during my first trimester of pregnancy everytime I was cold. Weird I tell ya. I had to bundle up,wear slippers. It was not fun and there seem to be no reason why I was getting them. I am glad she is ok though and hope things become more even again.

That would freak me out too! Sorry you are all sicky, get better soon :)

Great 4-year old picture. It definitely chronicles the “independence” of 4!

Ah, peace to you, my friend. Breath in with the butterflies, out with the bumblebees.
Ugh! the hives! that would have me freaking out too. I hope they go quickly.

Oh yes, the trying times. I agree that it often happens to us at the “half-mark” of an age. Two and a half? Terrible. Three? Great! Three and a half? OMG

So and so forth, you get the idea. Take lots of deep breaths and keep repeating “this is just a stage, this will pass”.

We get hives here on occasion and while they look horribly scary, a dose of Benedryl usually makes them bearable. Hope you are all feeling better soon.

Glad to hear she’s better. Hives are crazy. My husband had them a few weeks ago. He was covered in reddish white lumps all over his body. Totally freaked me out. He’d take a Benedry, they’d go away and then come back. It lasted about two days and we never figured out the trigger.

Peace pills. Guffaw. Good one. I need some of those for sure.

The rash looks very similar to one Maisie used to get occasionally at about Keeleys age.It turned out it was and allergy to the stabilisers they use in pure apple juice. It changes with the season and you can never be sure which is being used.Thankfully Maisie grew out of it but she did end up in A+E a few times. I hope she’s feeling better now. x

Oh, that looks painful. I hope the meds will help. I know how awful it is to constantly itch.

Ah poor things. My little guy got really bad hives this summer. They happened after he’d been sick with a cold. They lasted for 7 days. It was horrible. I felt so bad for him…

My husband gets hives from some cough syrups. You’ve had colds… is your little one taking anything?

  • 19. Natalie  |  September 22, 2007 at 10:23 am

My son got those and WORSE. I could go into great detail or I could go straight to the solution in two words: Pediatric Accupuncturist. Trust me. Painless, simple, effective and fast.

Oh poor girl! That is not any fun (for her or you!).

    Hi ya
About the rash – when I saw it I immediately though of my daughter – she also cameout in a terible rash whihc looked very, very similair to Keely’s – after taking her to various Dr’s – from a naturepath, to a peadiotrician and lastry to my homeopath – everyone had a diffrent diagnosis whihc really made me feel extremly stressed out – and no one could really tell me what was wrong with her and what had been the cause of this angry red, elevated rash.

Eventually I found a homeapath who tested her for every food allergy on planet eart and it came up that she is allergic to nuts – not just peanuts – but all nuts!!! I have to be extremely careful what I buy as so many products contain nuts or are manufacture in a factory where nuts are used in other products.

I have now learned to replace nuts in food with sesame seeds as that still gives that nutty taste that one craves from time to time – and it workds – also soy butter instead of peanut butter helps her get over her craving for peanuts.

    take care
